DR. JILL SHIFFMAN, D.V.M.
As you can see from my pictures, I loved animals
from a very young age and always thought about being a veterinarian.
I enjoyed a wonderful childhood in northern NJ, graduating from
Wayne Valley HS. After earning a B.A. in Philosophy at the University
of Michigan, I tried my hand in the corporate world selling microelectronics
for several years. Although I achieved a degree of success, I yearned
for more soul-satisfying work and my love of animals and long time
desire to work with them prompted me go back to school to become
a Vet.
I received my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2003 with
High Honors from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine,
completing my clinical year at the University of Florida.
Because of my passion for horses, I pursued equine medicine during
a year-long internship in Blacksburg, VA at Virginia-Maryland Regional
College of Veterinary Medicine (VA Tech). I thoroughly enjoyed
working with horses, but after the internship ended, my home in
NJ called me back and I took a job working in small animal emergency
medicine.
My experiences there made me realize how much I missed working
with dogs and cats, so I changed my focus and found a great home
at Franklin Lakes Animal Hospital in December 2004.
Since joining FLAH I have not had the opportunity to fulfill my
desire for travelling for spay/neuter clinics in the islands as
I have been very busy building a family here. I married my husband
Carlos in early 2006 and we have since been blessed with 2 beautiful
boys. Dennis was born Christmas 2006 and Carlos Thurman made it
into this world in July 2008. We also share our home with 4 cats
(Bruce, Lucy, Pedro and Wonder) and 1 wily German Shepherd puppy
(Samantha).
Any spare time that I have is spent playing with my awesome family.
I also really enjoy riding horses, reading, travel, skiing, music
and sleep. (Yes, sleep!)
