DR. CHERYL WELCH, V.M.D.

If you ask my parents, they will tell you that I wanted to be a veterinarian since I knew such a job existed. I believe I was 5. I attended Cornell University for undergraduate work because a family friend told me that if I wanted to be a veterinarian, I had to go to Cornell. I graduated from University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1990. I finished my Internship at the Oradell Animal Hospital and worked in private practice for several years before opening Franklin Lakes in 1995 one month after getting married.

Now I have 4 children, 5 cats, 2 dogs, 2 birds, 2 snakes, and a chinchilla. Some live at home and some live at the animal hospital. They enrich my life as well as the lives of my family. The exotics are a passion that never leaves me amazed at how unique and special each bird, reptile or small mammal can really be. The wildlife we help reminds us that all animals deserve a chance and should not suffer.

When I am not at work I enjoy being a mom, skiing, snowboarding, learning to trapeze, horseback riding, yoga, sailing, spinning, and of course, traveling.

My staff is my second family and I am lucky to have competent, compassionate doctors, technicians, and receptionists to help make FLAH a state of the art hospital with a lot of heart.
