DR. ALAN POMERANTZ, D.V.M.
I was born and raised in New Jersey. I always knew I wanted to be a veterinarian before I was even in kindergarten! I never wavered in that decision. I attended Cook College of Rutgers University receiving my BS degree in Animal Science. I continued my education at Cornell University earning my MS degree in Reproductive Endocrinology as well as my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree.
My initial years in veterinary medicine were involved in primarily the care of dairy cattle. I lived in New York State for approximately fifteen years on a small farm in the Hudson Valley and raised Suffolk sheep and pygmy goats while caring for all types of animals.
I have worked with shelters, zoos, farms and for the last 10 years with small animals exclusively. My veterinary interests include ophthalmology, soft tissue surgery and oncology.
One of brightest highlights of my long career was traveling to Peru to participate in a program helping animals in the poor rural countryside. The animals we cared for were owned by Peruvians recovering from the after effects of a devastating earthquake.
When I’m not at the hospital, you can find me with my family doing something in the great outdoors. Hiking and camping, fishing and snow skiing are just a few of the things that we enjoy. We also love traveling. It’s so exciting visiting new places and experience living in different cultures.
Domestically, I like reading, gardening and cooking. I also enjoy watching professional sports and closely follow the Giants and Yankees.
